My Interpretation of the American Dream
First of all, we got to ask ourselves: What is the American Dream? Well, we should take a look to what took place back in 1776. The American Dream meant to stand up for our Freedom, and to protect our unalienable Right of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Secondly, we also know that throughout
the course of the US History, the meaning of the American Dream has been transformed
with the general idea that it is associated to success, and the power that money
brings to an individual or organization.
The American Dream exists, but it has
been distorted to a great extent by many, and the new generations seem to be
confused. This misunderstanding, confusion or distortion leads to the misperception
of the Dream.
The American Dream is not about the money, and all the things that could be done with that money, but about the extraordinary principles embraced within the Dream. And, those principles clearly are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

In any case, the American Dream, in terms
of the average individual, is geared towards material things and possession of
assets. But, more recently, five decades
ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about the main principles of this Dream, and the
intrinsic relationship of those principles with God. He inspired our Nation with his speech based
on biblical sources, and again I would say: we may take “a look to 1776”.
The Dream, or let’s say the American Dream still unfulfilled. It is a Dream that has been slandered by misinterpretations that still continue till this day.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2013 is beyond memorable, it is a day full of very important inclusive events, but important as that, 2013 represents a benchmark; it is the 50th anniversary of the heroic speech that changed the course of our Nation.
Finally, this interpretation is just my humble attempt to remind the reader that we must give our deepest thoughts to this colossal and important Dream, because it is our Dream. The Dream of a an entire Nation, the American Dream, and we all want our Dream to become reality, our efforts to be accounted for, our voices to be heard, and our contribution to strengthen our Nation, a Nation that at the end of the day belongs to us: "We The People".
